DOHA, Sept. 25, 2020: The 2020 AFC Champions (West) Round of 16 casts has been finalized following the conclusion of Groups C and D on Thursday.
With six teams having already sealed their places going into Thursday's matches, what was to be decided where the two teams who would advance from Group C and the top two positions in Group D.
Islamic Republic of Iran's Persepolis FC finished on top of Group C after emphatically defeating UAE's Sharjah 4-0 to set up an enticing clash with Group D runners-up Al Sadd SC in the Round of 16.
Al Sadd's hopes of finishing top of Group D were dashed after they fell 1-2 to Iran's Sepahan FC. Al Sadd's defeat meant Al Nassr emerged Group C winners but the Saudi Arabian side also didn't enjoy a winning night as they fell 0-1 to UAE's Al Ain FC.
Up next for Al Nassr are domestic rivals Al Taawoun, who defeated Qatar champions Al Duhail 1-0 on Thursday.
The remaining Round of 16 ties were decided on Wednesday with Group A winners Al Ahli Saudi FC to face UAE side Shabab Al Ahli Dubai while Group B winners Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan will play Iran Pro League side Esteghlal FC.
The Round of 16 ties will be played on Saturday and Sunday with the knockout stage draw to be conducted in Doha on Monday.
