Berkeley police are investigating a spate of gunfire that damaged at least six vehicles on Tuesday night.

No one was hurt and no homes were struck during the shooting, Berkeley police said.

The exact time of the shooting remains under investigation due to heavy fireworks activity in Berkeley when the gunfire likely broke out, police said.

But police believe it happened late Tuesday night.

One person called police to report the sound of gunfire in the area at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.

A resident then called Berkeley police around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday after finding bullet holes in his or her vehicle.

Police responded and blocked off the street for the investigation.

Officers ultimately found six vehicles on the block that had been struck by gunfire.

Police also found evidence of gunfire in the roadway.

As of Wednesday afternoon, police did not know whether the shooting was targeted or random.
