Thieves broke into the Berkeley Apple Store twice in two days, taking tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise, authorities report.

On Tuesday at 12:20 p.m., two people went into the Apple Store on Fourth Street and took $20,000 worth of iPhones and iPads, Berkeley police said.

They fled in a silver sedan occupied by a third person, BPD said.

A community member described the scene to Aipsasiamedia: "We were in the Berkeley store at about 12:20 when 2 young men came in and grabbed as much as they could dragging cords and ripping them from the anchors, then ran out - the store was 1/2 full at the time, most folks panicked and ran towards the back of the store."

"The staff was not surprised," they wrote. "The guard just stood and watched."

On Wednesday, the same thing happened again: Two people went into the Berkeley Apple Store at 12:15 p.m. and stole 20-30 phones, police said.

They left in a vehicle, possibly with a getaway driver.

Police do not know whether the same people were involved in both crimes.

Investigations are underway and no additional information was available of publication time.
